Often times patients choose to proceed with their second eye because they are happy with the outcome of their first surgery and wish to have improved vision in both eyes. In some cases, stereovision (depth perception) may also be affected if the power difference between your operated eye and your other eye is too great, the brain may not be able to fuse your vision and can cause confusion. Many patients will choose a balance of their eyes for distance and wear reading glasses.
Both eyes are not usually done at the same time although special circumstances my apply i.e. disabled people. In some provinces like Quebec and Ontario, bilateral same-day surgery is more common than in BC. Patients lose the choice of changing the lens design or power of the implant when both eyes are done together.
