What are Glistenings?
Water bubbles called “glistenings” may form in the soft intraocular lens after cataract surgery. Glistenings are visible on the microscope by the eye doctor and patients may be unaware of it. These are water bubbles that are absorbed into the plastic IOL as time passes. They are capable of reducing your vision under certain conditions. According to Health Canada - Canadian Adverse Reaction Newsletter Volume 23-Issue 2- April 2013, "the development of glistening was associated with visual impairment". This is an uncommon occurrence.
