Do I need to pay for cataract surgery?

There are THREE parts in determining whether or not you have to pay for surgery:

1. IOL lens choice:

MSP-covered basic monofocal lens (No charge to the patient)

Special Design Lenses that are not covered by MSP and is paid by the patient privately.

2. Specialty Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services

PLAN A: Covered by MSP, basic medically necessary measurements for implantation of an MSP-covered lens

PLAN B: Not covered by MSP, patient is to pay privately.

3. Surgical Facility

i) Mount Saint Joseph’s Hospital (a public hospital in Vancouver) at no cost. The basic monofocal lens is also part of the covered service.

ii) Private Surgical Center (fees and IOL fee paid by the patient)
